FDM at Maverick's

We stopped by the Mavericks Big Wave Surf Contest on Saturday, and it was amazing. The surf was so big, it was unbelievable. We hung out with the crowds on the bluffs after the viewing area below got washed out. Ended the day with beers and great food at Barbara's Fish Trap. El Niño Comes Out On Top In Fight Of The Year!

Vindicated!!! Gilbert Melendez has proven why he is one of the best lightweights in the World!! He has taken the only two losses he had, and turned them into dominant wins. Excerpt from Sherdog.com: Gilbert Melendez ended his 18-month exile from the Strikeforce lightweight throne with a dominating five-round decision over Josh Thomson, the man who ousted last year, in a clear contender for “Fight of the Year.” Scores were 49-47, 49-46 and 49-46. “It feels great,” Melendez said. “I just wanted to perform better than I did last time. Josh, hands down, is the toughest guy I’ve ever fought, the toughest matchup for me, maybe the toughest match I’ll ever have.” -read more here

Gilbert Smashes Ishida!!!

Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
Melendez stuffs takedown after takedown out-boxing Ishida throughout the early rounds, then steps up the pace landing elbows against the cage and then a battering of knees as well. As the third round begins, Melendez picks apart a bloody Ishida with scoring combinations. Then a heavy knee drops Ishida to the canvas where he turtles as Melendez smashes him into a TKO. Gilbert retains the interim Lightweight Championship belt and is assured a unification bout. Congratulations Gilbert from all of us at FDM!

Matt Sanchez at Cage Combat

Find more videos like this on Urijah Faber.com
At the first Caged Combat show ever in San Francisco, our good friend Matt Sanchez won his his first ever Caged Combat fight by submission at 1:14 of the first round. Matt easily submitted his opponent with a tight Guillotine Choke. It was a great addition to a an event that has to rank as the best fight nights the Kezar has ever seen. Special thanks to Caged Combat, and promoter Todd Middendorp for getting Matt on the card. Thank you Tracy Lee for snapping awesome photos of the whole event! Check out more of Tracy's photos at www.combatlifestyle.com

FDM – New Line Photo Shoots

We just finished a whirlwind two days of photo shoots for the new collection, stretching from San Francisco to Sacramento. The SF and the SAC are two cities that are close to our heart, good friends and good teams. Day one was shot at Gilbert Melendez’s El Nino Sports, and day two was shot at Urijah Faber’s Ultimate Fitness. Just as with our launch, it took a little help from a lot of good friends. Combat Lifestyle’s Tracy Lee made the trip out from Vegas to help us get it all done right. Can’t say enough good things about Tracy. She was awesome, and we couldn’t have gotten this done without her.

All the fighters at El Nino Sports and Ultimate Fitness were great too. They let us steal just enough time and floor space to get our shots done, and make them look killer. The photos from the shoot will start to make their way out this weekend across many different types of media. We hope everyone likes the shots and the new collection as much as we do.

FDM would like to give special thanks to Gilbert Melendez, Urijah Faber, Luke Stewart, Tareq Azim, Dustin Akbari, Matt Sanchez, Bobby Taylor, Tito Jones, Danny Castillo, John Clopton, Bo Bunch, and all the other fighters who participated in the shoot.

The new FDM collection will be up online this week, and also available for sale in the new FDM online store! Check us out often, and let us know what you think of the new collection. You can email us at fdmbrand@gmail.com

El Niño Sports' Skrap Pack debut

With a little help from FDM, the Skrap Pack team from El Nino Sports made a hugely successful debut at Winter Warriors this past Saturday night. It was the latest in a great series of MMA events put on by the Blue Lake Casino in Northern California.

Three of the boys entered the cage this time around, and all three walked out with Dubyas. Beau Bunch and John Clopton both took dominating unanimous decision victories. Bobby "The Bear" Taylor took submission of the night with a very nasty arm bar at the end of the first round.

Three victories was a sweet way to launch the new fight team out of El Nino Sports. El Nino Sports was launched by Gilbert Melendez in late 2008, and is quickly becoming one of the best camps in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Congrats to our friends on the huge night up north! FDM is proud to support the fighters at El Nino Sports. We see a tremendous amount of potential in the young team, and many victories to come. Please check back often for FDM collaborations with the El Nino Sports family.

Dustin Akbari Rolls At PFC 10

It took Dustin Akbari only 1:35 to improve his record to an undefeated 3-0. Saturday night the young FDM phoneme quickly defeated Bill Theofanopoulos by TKO at PFC 10. As the bell sounded to start the first round, both fighters moved forward and engaged each other at center ring. Almost immediately Dustin took his opponent down. Once the fight hit the ground, Theofanopoulos was clearly in deep water. Akbari easily controlled the fight from the top position, and unleashed a steady stream of punches and elbows that forced the ref to stop the action at 1:35 of the first round.

FDM would like to congratulate our good friend Dustin "Prince" Akbari on another extremely impressive performance. We know he is looking toward the future with poise, and excitement. That first championship belt is coming fast…

Sanchez Takes Gold In Rio

Our man Matt Sanchez just returned from Brazil where he recently took gold at the Rio International Grappling Open. Matt Sanchez is the 62kg representative of the US National Team, and he was able to run his division in Rio with an aggressive and highly technical style. Matt defeated several talented black belts en route to the gold medal.
Matt is an FDM sponsored athlete, and a good friend of the company. Following a very successful wrestling career at Cal State Bakersfield Matt made the move to Sacramento to train with Urijah Faber's team at Ultimate Fitness. Matt has transitioned beautifully to submission grappling, winning several prestigious tournaments and quickly earning a place on the US National Team. With such a strong foundation and a tough camp to support him, we're looking for Matt to make a successful transition to MMA very soon. Keep an eye out for our man in the Bantamweight division. He's coming…

Jake Shields Takes The Mic For Elite XC

With Mayhem off to DREAM our man Jake Shields stepped up to take the mic for Pro Elite at EliteXC Primetime. Jake, powered by his new FDM Launch Series T-Shirt, took the post like a true pro. Shields was on hand throughout the entire event to interview the winning fighters moments after they exited the cage. It was a great perspective for the fans to see, and Jake was able to give the Pro Elite audience access that is usually reserved for the insiders back stage. Expect to see more of Jake behind the mic at EliteXC, as the CBS executive in attendance appreciated having the promotion’s golden boy adding his thoughts to the fights throughout the evening. To see Jake in action head to www.proelite.com, or Youtube.com, keyword proelite. The man is multifaceted. Look for Jake to take the EliteXC welterweight title in September.

FDM Sponsored Dustin Akbari Impresses

FDM is proud to sponsor Dustin “Prince” Akbari, and proud to have been ringside Thursday watching our friend unleash a devastating beating at PFC 8. The young phenom improved to an undefeated 2-0, and made a big impression on everyone in attendance.

For those of you unfamiliar with Akbari, he is a longtime student of Cassio Werneck, and training partner of #1 ranked Featherweight Urijah Faber. Dustin fights out of Ultimate Fitness in Sacramento, California. The “Prince” has long impressed everyone he has trained or competed with. We’ll all be hearing a lot more about him soon.

Thursday night was a great second step in a career we expect to be extraordinary. Dustin is a truly gifted phenom possessing a high level of technical prowess, combined with a very aggressive, unrelenting style. He possesses all of the intangibles needed to reach the highest levels of the MMA world. Please join us in congratulating our friend. We are all excited to see what’s next for Dustin, and to watch his ascent.

FDM Launches!

With a little help from a lot of good friends, we are pleased to release the first offering from the FDM brand. We’d like to thank everyone who helped us, and who motivated us to get out and launch the new line. We would especially like to thank our friends Jake Shields and Gilbert Melendez for collaborating with us on the first release of t-shirts. Both Jake and Gilbert were involved in the creative process from the beginning, and we would not have been able to release such strong designs without them. We are happy to sponsor both talented fighters.
We are extremely excited about the coming weeks and months at FDM. We hope that you enjoy our products, and share our enthusiasm for MMA and design. We are very happy with the four t-shirts we are launching with, and also excited about what we have planned for the next release later this year.

Please visit our exclusive retailers and help support the brand.
